5 small businesses that create calm

Starting Calm In A Box has led me not only to lots of new information and ideas around wellbeing and improving mental and physical health but also to other small businesses who also have at their heart the real desire to bring calm to others.

The seasonal markets by Fabulous Places at The Roundhouse in Derby, which host a vast array of gorgeous artisan small businesses, were a great early source of inspiration for the calm boxes and for creating a calm home.

Here are five of my favourite wellbeing products that I’ve discovered through shopping small…

Blue Stiggy

Founded by Michaela and her typewriter, Dorothy, Blue Stiggy are the creators of the most beautiful personalised handbound notebooks printed with messages of calm and affirmation. I absolutely love the use of typography, not to mention these pencils of calm!

Seven Seventeen

A firm favourite in the calm boxes, the mood boosting candles are simple and elegant in design and beautiful in quality. The affirmation statements and gorgeous scents immediately bring a sense of calm to your home and your mind.

Jane Kent Studio

I first discovered Jane Kent at the seasonal markets at The Roundhouse in Derby and bought this embroidered frame to hang in my little girl’s bedroom. Since then I have bought several gifts for close friends and family and whenever I see another positive message in that beautiful stitching, it always makes me smile and marvel at her skill and craft.

Elsie Moss Botanical

I love finding suppliers for the calm boxes who are local to Derbyshire so I was over the moon to find these beautiful soaps. The scents are so lovely, I have a small pile of them in a bowl next to my workspace!

Lune Essentials

I was lucky to meet the sunny dispositioned Hannah back at a Christmas market in London. Her beautiful range of candles, relax roll ons and pillow sprays all use essential oils to bring some calm and relaxation for when we need it most.

I love supporting small local businesses who are doing amazing things for better wellbeing – here’s to the independents!
